I Love Weddings!

Here are some fun images from a wedding we did last week. Due to an unavoidable family situation I have not kept up on this blog and I am sorry for that.  We are dedicated to keeping this going strong and know we have had a loyal following.  You will be seeing much more here from now on. Welcome back and thank you so much for your patience over the past few months.

Some weddings are romantic, some emotional and some down right fun.  Nathalie and Patrick were in the fun category.  A lot of our wedding are only an hour or two long but I have learned how to tell their wedding story in as many ways as possible when we shoot under a strict time line.  I guess shooting for the NBA in the past helped me to be ready to nail a shot when you have only 5 minutes to shoot a basketball player.  You set up all day, get ready and they walk in to the studio say hi statnd in place for a minute then off they go.  You learn to adapt and do the best you can with the time you have.  I always try to pull out as much emotion as possible and not just get the posed shot.  It is the shots I shoot just  before and after the set up shots that I often times like the most.  Some times you need to think on your feet to see what  couples are willing to do.  This was the first wedding that I have ever shot that included a goat with the couple!  Hope you enjoy these shots.

This goat was going for a walk on the beach on a leash.  I noticed the couple look and talking about how cool they though that was.  I asked them if they liked goats?  Not your typical question for your average couple.  They said they liked all animals.  I forged ahead and asked if they would like a shot with that cute little goat.  They seemed excited so I went for it.  To get a shot like this you have to be willing to think on your feet and just go for the unexpected.

Get your feet wet.  I love the walking on the beach shots. But do not stop shooting if you hear a wave coming.  Keep shooting.  Your shoes will dry off but if you bail to stay dry you will miss the emotional shot you can get when you yell run!  by the way this groom wins the award for the Jim Carry look alike.

I am not sure what it is about this shot that draws me in so much.  I think it is because it is not your typical smile or expression you usually get from your brides.

I was shooting the ring shot and am usually tighter than this but I thought this was the coolest tattoo I have seen so I pulled back for a shot.  I think this image tells more of a story than just a ring shot.

Every time I shoot a sunset shot I thank God for my Light Sphere and the soft light that I get for my sunset flash fill shots.  This image is right out of the camera.  There are no facial adjustments on this one so you can see how the light is soft even on the original image. My friend Gary Fong invented this valuable addition to my camera bag and I think I use it more that all of the other photographers that use it.  It is in use at every wedding I shoot for getting ready shots or the great sunset portraits we get almost every day here on Maui.

The wedding was fun.  The camera was being put in the bag as I was walking back to my car and out of the corner of my eye I saw this woman taking a photo of the sunset. I pulled the camera back out of the bag and snapped off a few frames.  Always be looking for the opportunities that surround you.  No telling what you might miss.  I do like this shot a lot.  This would make a good point and shoot advertisement.
